Haywards Heathens

Politics and Government of Haywards Heath

Overview

Haywards Heath consists of five electoral wards which form the basis of how it is represented at different levels of government.

The town has five tiers of government as it is in a two-tier local authority. This can lead to confusion over who provides which service and West Sussex county councillors recently agreed to hold a public debate on the future of councils in West Sussex. It is traditionally a Conservative stronghold although the Liberal Democrats have been a close challenger. Some councillors have been elected to more than one level of government.

Haywards Heath Town Council

Haywards Heath Town Council is responsible for street furniture including litterbins, bus shelters and some street lighting, allotments, the War Memorial, the cemetery and Christmas light displays. It also organises community events such as Haywards Heath Town Day. There are 16 town councillors.
